Mr. Danson Mwashako is a Public Policy and Governance Expert with a background in Economics and Accountancy. At Majira Eco, he is responsible for advancing the organization’s strategic vision by forging high-impact partnerships, and facilitating cross-sector collaborations to deliver research-driven, community-centered environmental solutions. Mr. Mwashako holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from Strathmore University, Kenya, and an International MSc module with a focus on Environmental Economics from the University College London (UCL), United Kingdom.
Currently, he is serving his second term as the Member of Parliament for Wundanyi Constituency in Taita Taveta County, Kenya. He also serves as the Chairperson of the Coast Parliamentary Group, providing leadership to a caucus of 47 Members of Parliament. Mwashako brings extensive experience and expertise in public sector budgeting, having served as a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in the 12th and 13th Parliaments of Kenya. In addition, he has a strong grasp of regional policy and integration matters through his role on the Parliamentary Committee on Regional Integration, with a focus on advancing the East African Community (EAC) agenda.
He is the Founder and Patron of the Danson Mwashako Foundation, which has championed innovative, community-led initiatives that address social and environmental challenges. Among its flagship programs is the Mtimtoto initiative, which establishes a symbolic connection between childbirth and climate action. To date, the initiative has resulted in the planting of over 35,000 trees, making a measurable impact on environmental sustainability and contributing to climate resilience efforts in Kenya, in alignment with the objectives of the Paris Agreement (2015) on climate change.
